Stunning beauty of Khujaraho

The Khujaraho temples were built by the Chandellas rulers between Ad 900 and 1130. When the Chandella dynasty expired in the 13th century, the decline of the temples also started... Today only 25 of the 85 temples survived. But in what a good condition! They have not been destroyed by the Moghuls because the tempels were surrounded by the trees of the jungle.

Nowadays beautiful gardens surrounds the stunning tempels. The outside walls of the temples are fully decorated with statues, representing the full abundance of life: statues of apsaras and sura sundaris (heavenly and beatiful nymphs), couples making love, elephants, etc.

Inside the inner temple, there is no statue of the worldly things, only a representation of god (eg. shiva lingham). They say that a devotee, in order to find god, first has to overcome all the beautifull attractions of life..

Well, for most of us that's seems almost impossible...
